Kip Ole Polos

I was born 1973 in ‘Sanga’, situated near Il Ngwesi in the Laikipia District in the Rift Valley. I belong to one of the small sub-tribes of the Maasai tribe called ‘Laikipiak Maasai’.

My grandparents brought me up within the Il Ngwesi Group Ranch and my educational background includes Lokusero Primary School from 1982 and Njorua Secondary School from 1990. After my schooling, I joined the Il Ngwesi Group Ranch in 1996 where I worked as a general worker until 1999 when I began work as a driver.

I went to Utalli College  for a Course on Customer Service while I was at Il Ngwesi. The course covered areas including: basic tour guiding, supervisory skills, maintenance supervision, and personnel & legal aspects of  hospitality operations – all skills that were put to practice in my management of Il Ngwesi- a Maasai owned lodge that is a role model for community based land and wildlife conservation.

Prior to my becoming a freelance independent Naturalist/Guide, I was a head guide at Sirikoi, located on Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. I am a member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA), and is working on the silver level. I have three children and  it makes me extremely happy when I guide families on safari sharing my passion for my home area and Maasai culture and Kenya as a whole.

My interests include reading, meeting new people, traveling, birding, geology, wildlife and wildlife conservation. I also enjoy learning new languages. It is hugely important to me to do anything to help my tribe maintain our culture through wildlife conservation.
