About this journey

A 5 days/4 nights fly-in safari to the heart of the Pearl of Africa, combining two unforgettable gorilla treks in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with chimpanzee trekking in Kalinzu Forest and a moving cultural encounter with the Batwa, the forest's original inhabitants. With scheduled Aerolink flights and a luxurious lodge set inside the national park itself, this is Uganda at its most intimate and rewarding.

A Four nights Safari designed for travellers who want Uganda's greatest primate encounters without long days on the road. A short scenic flight carries you from Entebbe over the western highlands and into the misty embrace of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to nearly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas.

At the centre of this journey are two gorilla treks, each with a different habituated family, doubling your time with these extraordinary animals and revealing new personalities with every encounter. An afternoon of chimpanzee trekking in Kalinzu Forest adds a lively counterpoint, while time with the Batwa community brings the forest's human story to life through storytelling, song and centuries of tradition.

With a boutique night at Hotel No.5 in Entebbe and three nights at Gorilla Sanctuary Lodge, set within the national park just moments from the trailhead, this is Uganda at its most intimate and rewarding.

DAY 1

Arrival in Entebbe

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport you are met by our representative for the short transfer to Hotel No.5, a stylish boutique retreat set in tropical gardens just minutes from the airport. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing by the pool or strolling the nearby Entebbe Botanical Gardens ahead of your safari.

DAY 2

Fly to Bwindi, Chimpanzee Trekking in Kalinzu Forest

After an early breakfast, board the morning Aerolink scheduled flight from Entebbe to Kihihi, a scenic hop of around 1 hour 15 minutes over Lake Victoria and the western highlands. Your expert guide meets you at the airstrip and you drive to Kalinzu Forest Reserve for an afternoon of chimpanzee trekking. Kalinzu shelters a thriving community of habituated chimpanzees alongside colobus and vervet monkeys, and an hour in their boisterous company is a wonderful contrast to the quiet majesty of the gorillas to come. Continue to Buhoma and settle into Gorilla Sanctuary Lodge, set within the forest itself just moments from the trailhead.

Then follow your rangers into the ancient forest in search of one of Buhoma's habituated gorilla families. Treks can take from one to several hours depending on where the family has moved, and the reward is a full hour in the presence of these extraordinary animals. Return to the lodge for lunch and a rest. In the afternoon, join the Batwa community for an immersive cultural experience, learning how the forest's original inhabitants lived, hunted and gathered beneath the canopy for millennia, brought to life through storytelling, song and dance.
