Ultra-Luxury Mara & Diani Beach

Perfectly balanced between safari and beach, this 9-day tour to Kenya delivers sensational accommodation and a host of unforgettable experiences. Opening with wildlife viewing in the Masai Mara, the tour then switches to a private villa on the Indian Ocean coast. Flying between destinations makes the logistics easy, and the accommodation throughout is stylish, exclusive and luxurious.

Richards River Camp-Perfectly situated on the banks of the Njageteck River in the private Mara North Conservancy, the camp allows for total privacy and exclusivity. The Ngoyanai springs provide permanent water, drawing in large numbers of animals to the area around camp. This camp is also particularly known for its resident lion pride which can often been seen hunting right in front of the camp, and most always can be heard roaring during the night.

With only seven tents, this camp is ideal for individuals as well as exclusive groups who wish to experience the Masai Mara in a personal intimate setting. Beautifully appointed with furnishings and fabrics collected by Liz on her travels – the result is a casually luxurious tented camp, combining exceptional wildlife with a contemporary ‘Out of Africa’ experience.

Your beach accommodation is Alfajiri Beach Villa, set a discreet distance from the hustle and bustle of legendary Diani Beach. Complete with a private swimming pool, indoor and outdoor lounges, and three delicious meals a day, the villa is the perfect place to do as little or as much as you like. Lazy lunches, massages and a little time in the hammock can be balanced by scuba diving, snorkelling and kite surfing – there is even an 18-hole golf course nearby. Alfajiri has long been a favourite with international celebrities looking for an understated spot on the balmy Kenyan coast.

Designed to appeal to all travelers- Honeymoon, Group or Familis- this itinerary is an exciting way to experience Kenya in luxury. . Alfajiri Beach Villa is your own exclusive-use, 5-bedroom accommodation with child-minders if you need them and a chef who will create a kids’ menu based on their tastes and requirements.

Detailed breakdown

Days 1-4: Fly into the Masai Mara | 4 Nights

The tour begins with your arrival at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you are met and transferred to nearby Wilson Airport for a scheduled  flight into the Masai Mara. Arriving at Richards River Camp in time for lunch, you can look forward to an afternoon game drive with a further three full days to plan with your guide. Morning and afternoon drives are the main focus but you can also head out on foot with your guide for a nature walk or visit a local Maasai village. There is also the opportunity to go on hot-air balloon safari, taking off at dawn and watching the rising sun illuminate the savannah below you.

As a wildlife destination, the Masai Mara is diverse and highly rewarding at any time of year: animals such as lion, elephant, giraffe and cheetah are resident in the area and the hilly landscape around camp is ideal for leopards. The Masai Mara is also the scene of the annual Wildebeest Migration from about July to October, when wildebeest and zebra arrive in their hundreds of thousands, attracting great densities of predators and giving you excellent chances of seeing predator-prey interaction.

Set behind rustling palm trees and overlooking the beach, the villa offers privacy and exclusive-living at the heart of the Kenya beach experience. You have a rim-flow swimming pool and large indoor and outdoor lounges plus a choice of dining venues where you can sit down to excellent local dishes with a Mediterranean twist; expect lots of fresh seafood, fruit and vegetables complemented by South Africa and Chilean wines.

If you are feeling energetic then there is an extensive list of sports and activities on offer in the immediate area ranging from seasonal diving with whale sharks (in about February or March) to a round of golf. You can also visit local villages and community projects, go on quad-bike or jet-ski adventures, enjoy a massage or sail by dhow to a marine reserve.
